Mythic Sky is a cultural history course told through the constellations. Students explore how different civilizations mapped the same stars into different stories—Greek, Chinese, Polynesian, Indigenous, and more—revealing how culture shapes meaning. It's world history through the shared ceiling of the night sky: one set of stars, many interpretations.
Students learn how myths function as social technology: teaching values, encoding navigation, explaining seasons, and reinforcing identity. We compare stories across cultures and ask smart questions: What does this society emphasize? What do they fear? What do they honor? What does their sky say about their world?
The course builds research and writing skills in a way that feels alive. Students practice discussion, short writing, and creative reinterpretations while gaining a richer understanding of worldview, symbolism, and the universal human need to orient life through story.
